Expert diver Karl Bly was doing a routine swim in the American River when he came across a shiny circular object. When he took a closer look, he realized it was a gold wedding ring.

A few days later, Karl was able to track down the owner of the lost wedding ring.

“I’ve been doing this since I was 10 years old,” Bly told CBS13.

Bly says he does searches and rescues of possessions that have been lost in the river all the time. So often that he runs a Facebook page where he can post his underwater discoveries and reunite them with their owners.

The page is called American River Lost & Found.

After Bly posted a photo of the wedding ring on the Facebook page, his followers were able to track down the owner, Adam Papini.

Little did he know Papini had been desperately searching for his ring.

“I immediately went to the store and got snorkel gear and I’ve been doing a search in the river bottom for the last week,” he told CBS13. “For some reason, I still had faith that I would find it.”

The two met up near where Bly discovered the ring and returned it to a sentimental Papini.

“I’ll remember this moment for the rest of my life and I could eventually pass this down to my grandchildren and share this with them,” Papini told Bly.
