Congestion pricing is a step closer to reality in New York City.

The Biden Administration is allowing an environmental study to proceed, paving the way for tolls to be installed south of 60th Street in Manhattan.

“This is something that’s going to have so much to do with the future of New York City, because the future is mass transit,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said.

Tolls are expected to generate about $1 billion a year. That money would go towards improving the subway system.

“Just think of this as the way that we’re going to know our subways are going to be running on time, are going to be safe,” de Blasio said.
